Did You Know
1. A beautiful Irish symbol, Brigid's Cross, typically hung over a doorway entrance or a barn door to protect all of those that enter. This cross is normally handcrafted from rushes, dried reeds, or sometimes straw on February 1st. The cross is named for Brigid of Kildare, the only female patron saint of Ireland. Many of the folk attributes ascribed to Brigid of Kildare bear similarities to the pagan grain goddess Brigid. Like the saint, the goddess is associated with poetry, healing, smithcraft, protection and animals.

2. On Leap Day, February 29th, as part of the Irish tradition known as Bachelor's Day (also known as Ladies' Privilege), women are permitted to make marriage proposals to males. This custom is said to have originated from a legend about Saint Bridget and Saint Patrick.
